How did this happen?

Somehow, I'm finding myself too busy to find a job. This week is better than last, but I look at my calendar, and between play reviews and freelance gigs and sleep, I'm not looking too hard. Which would be all well and good if I had savings to live off of, but I really don't.

I need to find a sponsor, like they had back in Shakespeare's day. Support my artistic endeavors, etc.

But really, what are the odds?

But wait, there's more...

Disgusting

Stand-in mistress sought to take wife's abuse (Reuters, February 26, 2007)

Not that the whole thing isn't disgusting, but the thing that I find ESPECIALLY so is this paragraph:

More than 10 people had applied for the job, the newspaper said. The "successful" candidate would be 35 and originally from northeastern China and would be paid 3,000 yuan ($400) per 10 minutes, it said.

What kind of woman has such low self esteem or dire financial needs that she'd submit to this?

But wait, there's more...

See? People Like Me!

Completely unsolicited email I received this afternoon:

Hi Jill,

I hope you are doing great!

I'm not sure if you knew... But I'm the new editor of [Redacted] Magazine in Philadelphia... I've gone back to my journalism roots! And you came to mind today. I'm not sure if your Phillyist gig is exclusive, or if it's full time, or if you have another day job. But I'm looking immediately for a copy editor/fact checker. There is some $ budgeted for this. You would ideally have to do it here, in the office, which is right near Rittenhouse Square. Do you have any proofreading/copy editing experience? Are you interested/available? If not, do you know someone qualified for this that you'd recommend?

I may also be looking for freelance writing as well, if that also interests you. I look forward to being in touch.

Best,
Karen

How great is that timing?

But wait, there's more...

Why...

...is it that suddenly, everyone I went to high school with seems to be engaged or married? We are still young, people! Enjoy your life for a little while before you get hitched!
